Jackson, Wyo., pastry shop owner to represent Mexico at World Chocolate Masters competition

Executive pastry chef Oscar Ortega, owner of Cioccolato Pastry Shop, to compete against representatives from 19 other countries during World Chocolate Masters competition in Paris in October 2009

Chicago, Dec. 11, 2008 – Barry Callebaut – the world’s leading manufacturer of high-quality cocoa and chocolate products – today announced that Oscar Ortega, executive pastry chef and owner of Cioccolato Pastry Shop in Jackson, Wyo., will represent Mexico at the 2009 World Chocolate Masters, a top-level competition for chocolate craftspeople from all over the world.

About Chef Oscar Ortega

In addition to his pastry shop in Jackson, Wyo., Ortega works as a consultant in Mexico, assisting restaurants and hotels with developing pastry menus and training pastry staffs to create high-end and unique desserts. Ortega sharpened his skills for creating pastries over the years after working as a pastry chef and chocolatier in several luxury hotels and fine dining establishments in the United Kingdom, Italy, France, the United States and Mexico.

He received his culinary training in Mexico City and his pastry training at the CAST ALIMENTI School in Brescia, Italy. He also completed courses in chocolate and sugar decoration at the Notter School of Pastry Arts in Orlando, Fla.

Ortega, who has competed in numerous pastry competitions and received several awards, also is president of the Mexican Pastry Team, a group of Mexican pastry chefs who possess great artistic talent and come together to compete in international pastry competitions.
