The German selection for the World Chocolate Masters 2009 was once again a breathtaking event for the public. As last edition, this competition took place at the creative Haus & Wohnen exhibition in Cologne.

All 8 contestants showed off their craftsmanship in front of a crowded public. Easily accessible and transparant work spaces made it possible for the public to follow live the contestants' work and their techniques to create genuine pieces of art out of delicious chocolate.

The competition theme of "Haute Couture" was represented in chocolate showpieces, pralines, pastry and desserts in each contestant's personal way.
Despite the overall remarkably high level of contestants, Michaela Karg, 27 years old, from Feuchtwangen, who works in Café am Kreuzgang, could distinguish herself. Her creations represented a travel through time in different styles. The ever present element was a pearl that represents the extravagance of Haute Couture.

The showpiece in Art Déco style, made of white and dark couverture, referred to the Haute Couture around 1925, with its typical colours and decorative elements. She went on with Op-Art, Nostalgie, New Look and En Vogue.
On the days before the German Chocolate Masters, the "Junior Chocolate Masters" were organised for young students of the Konditorenmeisterschule der Handwerkskammer zu Köln. They as well made chocolate showpieces and pralines to the theme of "Haute Couture".

The winners of the Junior Chocolate Master 2008 were Rafaela Laux, Johanna Mehrkens and Tanja Zenzes. This winning team is invited by Barry Callebaut to Paris to visit the world finals of the World Chocolate Masters 2009.
